Joe Waters and his wife, Kathy, were married in 1987. Before they were married, they attended a small Bible Church of less than fifty people. They would sing one hymn at the beginning of the service and one at the end of the service, after fifty-five minutes of teaching. Because the church never grew, the members decided to disband and attend other churches. In 1991, Colonial was meeting in the band room of a middle school in Cary. Joe and Kathy visited and, being used to one song, began to wonder: “Will the pastor ever have an opportunity to preach with all of this singing?” When Pastor Davey began to teach, they knew that they had found their new church home as his teaching was very much like what they had been exposed to for the previous ten years. They did get used to all the singing: Kathy has sung in Colonial’s choir and Joe has played in the orchestra. The Waters have been teaching the four-year-old Sunday School Class for thirteen years. Kathy has also served as an AWANA leader and council time teacher and Joe has been serving as a Deacon for six years. Joe holds a B.S. in Economics and Mechanical Engineering and has worked for Underwriters Laboratories, UL, for eighteen years. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration at North Carolina State University; any spare time he has spent tinkering in his shop, usually fixing something that has broken. Joe and Kathy have two children: Joshua, 15, and Lenora, 12. |
