Bob Stephenson was raised in a Christian home where his busy mother taught Christ to him and his four brothers. At age four, he distinctly remembers being given a card, with a picture of Christ as Shepherd, in Sunday school. That was one of his earliest memories of learning about his Savior. Later, at age eleven, he made a profession of faith.  Over the years, as he continued in church attendance and Bible study, his faith and understanding of Christ grew.

After serving two years in the service during the Korean War, Bob returned home where he met and married a young lady named Katie—they have been married over fifty years. They were blessed with two children: a son and daughter. Their son, Bob Stephenson, Jr., attends Colonial with is wife, Cindy, and their two sons and he also serves as a deacon. Their daughter passed away at age six.

The Stephensons have lived in Raleigh since 1960. After moving to the area, Bob’s job gave him the opportunity to be a part of a local Baptist Church. They joined that congregation and Bob served there as a teacher, deacon and a leader of the bus ministry. He also participated for several years in Bible Study Fellowship and, during that time, was involved in lay-evangelism throughout North Carolina and neighboring states.

Bob and Katie first attended Colonial Baptist Church in November of 1998. They saw the Hand of God at work in the people, pastor and staff of the church and, seeing much fruit was being produced by the body at Colonial, they decided to become members and serve wherever they were needed.

Bob is humbled by his most recent challenge to serve as a Deacon/FLOCKS Leader. He describes the experience as exciting. He trusts the Lord to help him, at his current stage of life, to be the leader his flock needs.
